Background

Prior to working with Diversity Marketplace we were at the very early stages of developing the D&I strategy and plan for the company and building the function.

Approach

I had a specific need around training managers in Diversity and Inclusion, as the company had a critical KPI requiring 50% of all managers globally to be trained by the end of 2021. However, I had flexibility around the content and type of training, and I saw it as an opportunity to create a foundation of D&I knowledge, and a shared language in the organization.

I spent a significant amount of time looking for providers of training, and until I found Diversity Marketplace they all came up short – they were either too high level, or assumed too much prior knowledge, or focused on one area. As soon as I read about DM‘s offering, I could see the fit and once I spoke to Gamiel, and understood the interactive nature of the offering, the opportunity to co-develop the material to fit with the company culture, as well as his amazing energy, I was sold.

Training

In the past year DM has provided 6 one hour interactive webinars, which has allowed us to train nearly 600 people globally, including 76% of all managers.

The feedback received through the webinars with Mentimeter was provided in a comprehensive report and the (primarily) qualitative data has directed our ongoing strategy, and has given us an understanding of how people want to be involved, and what they expect of leadership, among many other insights.

We are now rolling out the training to all 7000+ employees. We will be offering these in multiple different languages, and Gamiel will be delivering Train the Trainer sessions to get our people prepared to deliver the trainings in their respective languages.

In addition to all of the above Gamiel has been a fantastic sounding board, and has supported me on my journey to build a diversity and inclusion platform at Marel.

Support

I‘ve found Gamiel incredibly supportive and he has been an integral part of our success so far. He has a deep expertise, which isn‘t UK focused, and a wonderful humility which belies his competence.

Impact

The consistent support and mentoring I‘ve received from Gamiel has given me the confidence I needed to push the strategy across the business. I feel much more comfortable in my role having worked with Gamiel.

Summary

Gamiel and Diversity Marketplace have been instrumental in building the foundations of our diversity and inclusion practice and the support we‘ve received, not only in rolling out the training, but the day-to-day mentoring and insight has been invaluable in driving the great progress of the past year. I am excited to see what the future holds.
